About Robyn
I started taking singing seriously in 2019 when I joined Cardiff Trans Singers. Not long afterwards, I had lessons with the artist known as Leenerz; Elizabeth Zharoff (thecharismaticvoice on YouTube); Christof Chapsis; and Dan Callaway. All of these artists can be found on YouTube.
In choir, I usually sing the lowest parts. I have worked extensively on my upper range also. The relevance of this is that all singers have access to two predominant registrations, a lower and an upper register, which you may have come to know as chest and head voice, or modal voice and falsetto, or mode 1 and mode 2, or even the heavy and the light mechanism. I have trained both of these registrations within my own voice.
During my ongoing time with Cardiff Trans Singers, I have sung at many venues, including:
- Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama's Dora Stoutzker Hall
- Bristol Beacon's Beacon Hall and Weston Stage
- Royal Northern College of Music's Concert Hall
I have also sung at many smaller venues, and performed with the Lisvane Players concert group. Usually I have undertaken some solo singing as part of these performances. As you can see, these venues are not small, and I usually sing without microphones so I have learnt to make my voice project. I have worked with microphones and have studied both classical (unamplified) and contemporary (amplified) styles of singing.
My approach to vocal tutoring prioritises healthy vocal production; precise pitch training; a good understanding of rhythm; sight reading for those who wish to read sheet music; and an excellent understanding of the unique characteristics of your own vocal anatomy.
I have been awarded the Distinction result in ABRSM Grade 5 in Music Theory. I'm working towards completion of the BAST Singing Teaching Foundation course.
Aside from singing, I also have experience of acting and directing plays with Lisvane Players since I joined them at the start of 2025, and I am actively learning piano.
